Don Hellwarth, 77, of Marysville, formerly of St. Marys, died on Monday evening, July 2, 2012, at his residence following a brief illness, with his children by his side.
Don was born on Feb. 17, 1935, near Celina, to Richard and Melva Ferguson Hellwarth, and they preceded him in death.
On Sept. 3, 1955, in Mendon, he married the former Alice Jeanette Thomas, and she preceded him in death on June 28, 2003.
He is survived by his children, Robin L. (Daniel) Schwartz of Worthington and Todd R. (Melissa) Hellwarth of Magnetic Springs; five grandchildren, Brendan and Andrew Schwartz, Amber (Devin) Carlyle and Alan and Brock Hellwarth.
He was a 1953 graduate of Celina High School and continued his education by receiving an associate degree in business from the International Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind. He retired from the insurance industry following a long career as an executive, agent and agency owner.
An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds. He was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital, driving routes for Mobile Meals and a longtime member of the Marysville First United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at the Ingram Funeral Home, with the Rev. Denise Turpin officiating. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. until service time.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be made in Don’s memory to the Loving Care Hospice in care of the funeral home.
