District Gets More State Funding
ST. MARYS — St. Marys schools will receive an additional $612,000 in 2014 and $646,000 in 2015 according to the state’s newly minted biennial budget, bringing the school out of deficit spending, said Superintendent Shawn Brown this morning.
“We’re going to take a look at it, the treasurer’s going to look at it, and see if it has strings attached,” Brown said. “It doesn’t make up for the number of reductions over the last few years.”
If the funding has no strings, he said a list of options will be presented to the board of where the funding might be used.
Brown said he and the board will know more after the treasurer looks at the new budget; with the treasurer closing out the 2013 budget the rest of the week, and the holiday Thursday, it will be next week before details can be released.
“I need (the treasurer’s) advice because he’s been at this longer than I have,” Brown said.
