CANTON — A pair of area swimmers took to the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton on Thursday for state competition.
Jared Deubler, a St. Marys sophomore, competed in the preliminary in the boys Division II OHSAA swimming and diving championships on Thursday.
Deubler, making his second trip to state in his two seasons at St. Marys, finished 22nd in the boys 100 yard backstroke event. Deubler finished with a 56.25-second time. Deubler qualified for the state meet with a 56.02-second time.
Nikki Borgerding, a Minster freshman and the first Wildcat in school history to reach the state meet, finished 23rd in the preliminary race of the girls 100 yard breaststroke event. Borgerding turned in a 1:10.16 time.
Wapakoneta’s Josie Miller finished eighth in the girls 50-yard freestyle prelim on Thursday with a 24.43-second time.
Celina had all three of its girls relay teams competing, with the 200 yard freestyle relay being their best finish on Thursday in the prelims, with a 14th-place finish and a 1:41.24 time.
The Division II state finals will be contested beginning today at 5 p.m. in Canton.
