Deputies Probe Industrial Accident

CELINA — Deputies from Mercer County are investigating an industrial accident that claimed the life of a Rockford man on Saturday.

In a news release issued by Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey, at 3:33 p.m. Saturday, deputies received a call on Erastus-Durbin Road approximately one-half mile south of Ohio 707, indicating that the wind had blown a metal culvert from a trailer and across a male who was attempting to unload it.

Roger H. Hawk, of 3190 Hawk Road, Rockford, 74, was transported to the Van Wert Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from the incident.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by members of the Rockford emergency squad and fire department. Hawk was working a the site with his son Michael W. Hawk, when the incident occurred.
