David W. Hawkey, 58

David W. Hawkey, 58, of 01939 Feeder Road in St. Marys, died on Monday, June 2, 2014, at OSU/Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born on Sept. 20, 1955, in St. Marys, to Orville and Betty (Slemmons) Hawkey.

On July 16, 1988, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, he married Ann M. Jones, who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Jennifer (fiancé Erik Chapin)  of St. Marys; a son, Andrew Hawkey  of St. Marys; three brothers, Daniel Hawkey  of St. Marys; Ron (Neta) Hawkey  of St. Marys and Scott (Dot) Hawkey  of St. Marys; three sisters, Sharon Young  of St. Marys; twin sister Diana Alge  of Rotonda West, Fla.; and Becky Knutzen  of St. Marys, his mother-in-law, Florence Jones  of St. Marys; two brothers-in-law, Jim (Denise) Jones  of Celina and Joe (Dee Dee) Jones  of  Keswick, Va.; and two sisters-in-law, Amy (Alan) Anselman  of St. Marys and Amber (Carl) Brown  of Minster.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, James “Doc” William Jones, sister-in-law Delores Hawkey and brothers-in-law Ralph Young, Mike Alge and Earl Knutzen.

He was a 1974 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School.

He worked at Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen, for 26 years, where he was a CNC lathe operator.

Dave was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed all types of activities: hunting, fishing, bicycling, feeding and watching birds and taking motorcycle rides with his wife. He also enjoyed sports, and was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals.

His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends. He was very outgoing and had a gift for conversation. Dave derived great joy from making people laugh.

Rites are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller – Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High Street Chapel, in St. Marys, the Rev. Barry Stechschulte, officiating.

Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home on High Street.
