Cyclist Killed In Collision
SIDNEY — A New Knoxville man has been charged with a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter as a result of a collision Tuesday night.
At approximately 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a collision involving a pick-up truck and a bicycle on Lock Two Road, near Kettlersville Road in Van Buren Township. According to a news release, Richard Kuck, 72, of New Knoxville, was driving a blue Ford Ranger west on Lock Two Road when he struck Zachary Kerns, 16, of Botkins, while he was on a bicycle, that also was traveling west on Lock Two Road.
Kuck reportedly stated he was unable to see Kerns because the sun was in his eyes. Kerns was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Shelby County Coroner’s Office.
Kuck has been charged with one county of vehicular manslaughter, a second-degree misdemeanor. He is scheduled to appear in Sidney Municipal Court at a later date.
A second-degree misdemeanor is punishable by up to 90 days in jail.
