Curtiss E. Hager, 86

Curtiss E. Hager, 86, of St. Marys, formerly of Spencerville, died at 3:54 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the St. Marys Living Center, with family at his side.  

He had lived there since October 2012.   

He was born on Jan. 27, 1926, in Logan Township, Auglaize County, the son of Earl and Elma (Walther) Hager, who preceded him in death.  

On June 4, 1949, he married Ruthela Wagner, and she survives in St. Marys.  

Other survivors include two children, Dianna (Joe) Wenger of Elkhart, Ind. and Jay (Rhonda) Hager of Spencerville; five grandchildren, Jennifer Wenger, Matt (Jamele) Wenger, Ben (Jessica) Wenger, Andrea Hager and Steve Hager; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Meghan, Caleb, Marissa, Aiden, Ethan, Olivia, and Elliana Wenger; two brothers, Don (Claudette) Hager of Lima and Wilbur (Merlene) Hager of Wapakoneta; a sister, Dorothy (Jim) Morgan of Lima.

He was preceded in death by three children, Karen, Hal, and Tommy Hager; a brother, Howard.

Curtiss was a 1944 graduate of Buckland High School.  He was a lifelong member of the Bethlehem Christian Union Church, near Buckland, where he taught Sunday school and served on the church board.  He enjoyed visiting with his family, and watching Ohio State University basketball and the Cincinnati Reds.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with his son-in-law, the Rev. Joe Wenger, and the Rev. Kent Place, officiating.  

Burial is to follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.  

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Bethlehem Christian Union Church.
