CROSS COUNTRY: Area teams tune up at Coldwater

New Knoxville's Cassie Boyle, Fort Loramie's Meg Westerheide and Minster's Julia Slonkosky run on Thursday at Coldwater.

COLDWATER — The Coldwater Lion’s Club cross country meet is a test run for the Midwest Athletic Conference meet for the conference’s teams. For other area squads the meet one of the final tune-ups before their respective league meets against one of the best area fields.

Van Wert’s boys and Coldwater’s girls teams both edged out Minster for team wins on Thursday evening.

BOYS

Van Wert topped the boys standings with 62 points. Minster finished second with 72 points. Coldwater was third (91 points), St. Henry took fourth (121), Versailles was fifth (150).

St. Marys finished ninth with 296 points. New Bremen was 10th with 306 points. New Knoxville was 13th with 380 points. Celina took 18th with 470 points.

Minster’s Francis Slonkosky finished fourth overall with a 16:19 time.

New Knoxville’s Isaac Kuntz was eighth with a 16:41 time.

Minster’s Eric Dahlinghaus finished ninth wth a 16:42 time.

Minster’s other top finishers were Andy Albers (14th, 16:53), Andrew Fausey (17th, 17:17), Ben Butler (28th, 17:40) and Jonathan Fausey (44th, 17:56).

St. Marys’ top finishers were Nick Durkee (23rd, 17:35), Alex Mielke (43rd, 17:56), Matt Jutte (65th, 18:27) and John Meier (18:42).

New Bremen’s top finishers were Drew McClurg (56th, 18:14), Nathan Herriott (58th, 18:16), Jacob Rutschilling (18:31),  Brad Rammel (18:32) and Jason Zircher (18:33).

Along with Kuntz, New Knoxville’s Jacob Shaw was 40th with a 17:50 time, while Marcus Nitschke (19:23) and Andrew Arnett (20:24) were top Ranger finishers.

Versailles’ Samuel Prakel won the boys race with a 15:34 time.

GIRLS

The Coldwater girls cross country team edged out Minster by one point after having the top three finishers to win on their home course.

The Cavaliers finished with 43 points while Minster had 44 points.

Fort Loramie took third (112 points). Marion Local finished ninth (271), New Knoxville was 10th (290), St. Marys finished 11th (300), Celina took 14th (366) and New Bremen was 15th (428).

New Knoxville’s Cassie Boyle finished fifth overall with a 20:01 time.

Minster’s Julia Slonkosky finished sixth with a 20:04 pace and Hannah Butler was seventh with a 20:10 time. Leah Niekamp was ninth (20:16) and Lisa Barlage took 10th (20:18).

Other Minster top finishers were Gabrielle Barga (20:24), Katherine Burke (20:27), Kaci Bornhorst (17th, 20:43), Olivia Enneking (21st, (20:46), Maggie Meiring (26th, 21:16), Amanda Sherman (35th, 21:28), Allie St. Claire (40th, 21:36), Cortney Thien (42nd, 21:38), Kayla Thien (47th, 21:53).

Other top New Knoxville finishers were Hannah Privette (34th, 21:27) and Clara Shroyer (39th, 21:35).

St. Marys’ top finishers were Lexi Grothause (50th, 22:00), Amanda Dues (22:22), Hannah Tobin (22:43), Rochelle Sudman (23:16), Marissa Schrolucke (23:21) and Christine Sullivan (23:27).

New Bremen’s top finishers were Ashley Berning (58th, 22:09), Veronica Hirschfeld (23:35) and Teresa Homan (24:30).

Coldwater’s Sarah Kanney paced the field with an 18:09 time. Christina Seas was second (19:00) and Jill Kanney took third (19:17).
