February 3, 2012

ST. MARYS — A St. Marys woman was arrested Thursday night on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

According to a news release from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to a crash at 9:13 p.m. Thursday on Ohio 364, near Greenville Road, and determined Nia M. Kennedy, 23, of St. Marys, was driving a 1992 Toyota Corolla north on Ohio 364 when she drove off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole, snapping it off the ground and pulling down another pole connected to wires. The vehicle continued down an embankment and into a waterway.

Kennedy reportedly left the scene of the accident and was later located at a nearby residence. She was arrested for OVI and reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.189. The legal limit is 0.08 in the state of Ohio.

Dayton Power and Light was contacted and arrived on the scene because of a power outage. Several local residences were without power because of the crash.

Assisting at the scene were the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, St. Marys Township Fire Department, St. Marys EMS and Auglaize County EMA.
