Councilors OK New Hire

April 4, 2012

MINSTER — Minster Village Councilors approved the hiring of Andy Kuenning as the newest member of the Minster-Jackson Township Fire Department during their meeting Tuesday night.

“We have interviewed him a couple times showing him how we operate and he is very anxious to come on board,” Minster Fire Chief Dale Dues said. “We think he will be a good fit and he will bring us to 34 firefighters now and we are looking to fill two more spots in the next year or so.”

Village Administrator Don Harrod and councilors discussed and approved the second reading for an ordinance that would change the family passes and Kinder camp rates at the village of Minster Swimming Pool.

“There would only be two changes in the pool rates,” Harrod said. “The family passes would go up from $75 to $80 and for the Kinder camp — it would go up from $45 to $75 for the first student and $50 for the others.”

Harrod said work continues at the West Industrial Park.

“The crews have evacuated the area for the street and have hauled in gravel for the street base,” Harrod said. “Crews are pouring curbs and gutters this week.”

He also stated that the Brumbaugh Construction returned to work on the Fourth Street project and has removed most of the concrete curb and sidewalks between Hanover and Main streets.

“Crews have been installing silva cells for the trees between the two blocks as well,” Harrod said. “Brumbaugh will finish up any underground work that remains and will be removing the asphalt street hopefully by the third week in April.”

Harrod also spoke of a property owner contacting him requesting the village to consider installing a four-way stop at the intersection of Parkview  Drive and Settlers Lane in the Parkview Acres subdivision.

“Council looked at installing a four-way stop at this intersection in 2007, but elected not to move forward with the ordinance at that time,” Harrod said. “This may be an issue that the council and other members of the community may want to discuss again.”

The next regular village council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 17.
