Councilors OK Agreement

November 29, 2011

ST. MARYS — St. Marys City Councilors polished off a light agenda on Monday night.

Councilors approved the first reading of an emergency resolution authorizing St. Marys Mayor Greg Freewalt to enter into a Revolving Loan Fund Administration agreement as part of the city's participation in the Community Development Block Grant program with the Ohio Department of Development. According to the resolution, the city first received funding to establish a revolving loan fund in 1985. The fund often is used as a way for businesses to finance projects in the city in the form of low-interest loans.

"Every three years we have to re-enter," Freewalt said during the meeting.

Councilors also approved a motion to move the time and date of the final council meeting of the year.

The meeting, previously scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 26, has been moved to 5 p.m. Dec. 30. The time and date of the final council meeting often is pushed to as close to  as the end of the month as possible so that councilors may approve any necessary supplementals before the new budget takes effect in January.

In other business, councilors:

• Approved the third and final reading of an ordinance vacating an alley in the Highland Addition of the city.

• Approved the second reading or an ordinance authorizing Safety-Service Director Tom Hitchcock to enter into a fire protection contract with Noble Township from Feb. 1 to Jan 31, 2015.

• Approved the second reading of an ordinance authorizing Hitchcock to execute the continuation of ambulance service agreements with the various political subdivisions in Auglaize County.

• Set a finance committee meeting for 5:15 p.m. Dec. 5.

The next meeting of the St. Marys City Council is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at the city building located along East Spring Street.
