Councilors Amend Grant Resolution

April 29, 2014

NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen Village Councilors amended a resolution regarding the village’s total amount owed for the Miami Erie Canal Towpath project Monday night during a special meeting.

The village owed a 20 percent match to the Ohio Department of Transportation to complete the project, but there was a cost increase.

“The engineering estimate was over $500,000,” Mayor Jeff Pape said. “Why they didn’t use that, I don’t know. They had the estimate at $465,000. The bid came in at $480,000-something. So the bottom line is ... our 20 percent share went up.”

The village now owes $105,796, but will be reimbursed for 80 percent of that fee by an ODNR grant.

Pape estimated that this would be the last of the legislation to be passed on this project and that work should start on it soon.
