Contest Calls On Photographers

MINSTER — The Southwestern Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce is kicking off the holiday season with a photo contest that will be added to this year’s German Family Christmas.

“We have a lot of folks in the area that are into photography,” Southwestern Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce Director Scott Frey told The Evening Leader. “We thought this would be a great way to help get our photography-related chamber members involved in the holiday shopping event.”

Amateur and professional photographers are encouraged to enter their work in the event’s first photo contest.

“We’re hoping that a lot of them have a seasonal feel — whether it be a holiday landscape, a Christmas photo or something along those lines — but it’s not a distinct requirement,” Frey said of the entries.

Entries will be judged in four categories — landscape/nature, black and white, portrait and people’s choice.

“We’ve got two local chamber photographers, Greg Garman and Jenny Pleiman, that will judge the photography for us,” Frey said.

The entry fee is $20 per photographer, and the photographer may enter as many pieces as desired. Entries are due by Nov. 1 and should be turned in to Frames and Such, 93 E. Fourth St., Minster. Entries can be of any size and must be framed.

“If you need to get some framing done, you can do that right when you’re dropping off your photo entry,” Frey said. “You can make arrangements with Frames and Such to take care of that.”

All the entries will be on display at the YMCA in Minster during German Family Christmas, which will be held Nov. 9-11.

“We’ll have the photo entries on display at the YMCA Festival of Trees that weekend for people to come in and look at and vote for their favorite for the People’s Choice Award,” he said. “It’s something else nice to look at while you’re at the Y.”

The photographer of the winning photo in each category will win a $50 chamber gift certificate, and the winning photos will be on display at the Lockkeeper’s House through the holiday season.
