CIC Looking For Tenant

September 12, 2013

ST. MARYS — A St. Marys Community Improvement Corporation controlled downtown storefront is looking for a new tenant.

Peak Submission, which was located in the storefront below Hotel Fort Barbee, moved out of the building last weekend. St. Marys Development Manager Susan Crotty said CIC officials are currently in the process of assessing the building and marketing it to potential tenants.

“We were sorry to see Peak Submission leave but we are in the process of looking for a new tenant,” Crotty said. “I believe it could be a good spot for retail use. It’s very open, probably about 1,800 square feet, and it’s in a good location on a busy street.”

Crotty said she hopes to quickly fill the vacancy downtown. Potential tenants, she noted, could be those who are looking to take the next step in their home-based business.

“Something I find challenging is reaching those entrepreneurs who are out there in their homes who are creating something, selling something or running a business and who are ready to take the next step and open a storefront,” Crotty said. “It’s difficult to reach and find out who they are and we’d love to get the word out that this space is available and work with a new business or entrepreneur who would like to have a storefront.”

The rent is negotiable, and Crotty said there may be some upgrades needed in the building.

“We would be willing to work with a tenant to make sure that gets done in a cost-effective manner,” Crotty said.

Downtown development has been one of Crotty’s main goals since she started with the city.

“It’s the heart of the city so it’s important to keep the downtown viable,” Crotty said.

“It reflects the economic well being of a community. Even if you are trying to attract manufacturing facilities that may locate away from downtown, they are still going to look at the city and see how economically viable other parts are and everyone looks downtown.”
