Drew Charlson’s first race at Daytona International Speedway was everything he could ask for.

In his first race at Daytona and in his second career ARCA start, the 19-year old New Bremen resident finished runner-up to eight-time Daytona winner Bobby Gerhart in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 last weekend.

“To come here and finish second to one of the best racers ever at Daytona is simply a dream come true,” Charlson said.

Charlson will be appearing on Sunday at a Daytona 500 viewing party at Speedway Lanes in New Bremen to sign autographs and do a question and answer session at 4 p.m. After the conclusion of the Daytona 500, Charlson’s second-place finish will be replayed.

“We had the ARCA races at Daytona, Talladega and Iowa on our schedule,” Charlson said. “After the success of Daytona, maybe we can add a few more races, depending on sponsorship.”
