Charles M. Hay, 92
Charles M. “Bud” Hay, 92, of 205 N. Jefferson St., New Bremen, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at the Elmwood of New Bremen.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1919, in St. Marys, the son of Charles I. and Matty Marie (Schlechty) Hay, and they preceded him in death.
On Oct. 19, 1946, he married Louise Moeller, and she preceded him in death on March 30, 2008.
He is survived by his children, James (Danna) Hay of Celina, Kathy (Ron) Tontrup of New Bremen, John (Angie) Hay of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Kris (Steve) Imwalle of New Bremen; his grandchildren, Cody Hay, Justin Hay, Katie Hay, Shawn Imwalle, Brett Imwalle and Brice Imwalle; his sister, Margaret (Martin) Menchoffer of St. Marys; his in-laws, Cletus Ballweg of St. Marys, Jim and Pat Moeller of New Bremen, Jack and Hilda Moeller of Rochester, Mich., and Ruth Moeller of New Bremen.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Hay; his sister, Pauline Ballweg.
Mr. Hay was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289 and F.O.E. Lodge 767, both of St. Marys.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific.
He was employed at the former Goodyear of St. Marys for 40 years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, with the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund or to the Grand Lake Hospice.
