Charles H. Frey, 85

Charles H. Frey, 85, formerly of 712 S. Main St., in St. Marys, died at 7:09 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at Wapak Manor Nursing Home.

He was born on July 17, 1928, in St. Marys, to Lewis Edward and Clara Mae (Moore) Frey.

On Oct. 22, 1949, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, he married Irene A. Braun, who died on Dec. 7, 2013.

He is survived by five daughters, Connie (Steve) Bargdill of Botkins; Linda Kremer of Roanoke, Va.; Debbie (Wes) Shadley of Bullhead City, Ariz.; Vickie (Mike) Neuman of New Knoxville and Charlotte (Tim) Findley of Anna; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife, Irene Frey, by four brothers, Woodrow Frey, LeRoy Frey, John Frey and Samuel Frey and by two sisters, Beatrice Keiber and Mary Anderson.

He proudly served his country in both the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during World War II.

He retired from Goodyear Tire and rubber Company in St. Marys after 38 years.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, VFW Post 9289 and Eagles Lodge Aerie 767, all in St. Marys.

Charlie loved his family and everything associated with the game of baseball. He had vast knowledge of statistics and history of teams and players. He especially enjoyed attending opening day festivities in Cincinnati every year of his adult life.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Military honors will be presented following the service.

Private family burial will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
