CELINA — The Celina Police Department has made arrests in two separate incidents that involve suspects abusing a household product by huffing. In the first incident officers were called to a home at 7:23 a.m. May 31 after neighbors saw a teenager that appeared to be huffing paint, sitting on the porch. Officers arrived to find Kyle A. Poplaski, 19, sitting on the steps with an empty can of Ultra Duster. He was conscience, but Poplaski was “out of it” and had trouble answering the officer’s questions. He was issued a misdemeanor citation and released to his father at the scene.
The second arrest was at 9:07 p.m. June 13 when officers responded to a call of a man at Lakeshore Park, yelling indiscriminately. Responding officers located Dustin Nusbaum, 19. Nusbaum was allegedly holding a can of Ultra Duster cleaner to his face and huffing the contents as they walked up to him. He was taken into custody and charged with abusing harmful intoxicants. Nusbaum allegedly told officers he was using the dusting product as a recreational drug because it does not show up on drug tests. He had two cans of the Ultra Duster product with him.
Abusing products of this nature can be just as deadly as abusing prescription or illicit drugs. Some of the pressurized containers expel products at a temperature that can actually freeze lung tissue and cause damage that could lead to death.
