Caged Dog Found Drowned In GLSM

June 6, 2012

ST. MARYS — An investigation remains ongoing into determining who is responsible for a caged dog that was found Saturday drowned in Grand Lake St. Marys.

Grand Lake St. Marys Park Manager Brian Miller said his office received a phone call from the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office reporting a dog had been found drowned inside a cage near Rustic Haven. He declined comment as to the breed of the dog and if it had any identification.

“We aren’t discussing that because it’s under a joint investigation with us and the Auglaize County dog warden,” Miller told The Evening Leader. “It had nothing to do with the water quality and it was a large-sized dog that had been in there for a while.”

Miller said he believed residents with pets who live around the lake should not be worried about the safety of their animals. He also encouraged anyone with information to contact the park office at 419-394-3611 or the Auglaize County dog warden at 419-302-8303.

“This is something we want to get to the bottom of,” Miller said. “I don’t think they should worry. We’ll do further investigation and we will go from there. This is hopefully an isolated incident.”
