Bridges Examined

February 7, 2014

ST. MARYS — City and county officials met recently to review the status of the seven bridges in St. Marys.

The bridges are inspected on an annual basis as a way to look for any problem spots. City Engineer Craig Moeller said the checks also help with preventative maintenance.

“All of them are in pretty good shape,” Moeller said. “Only one bridge on Wayne Street will need some patch work on the abutments. That one still has the stone foundations. We will do some patch work on that and see what our options are for the future. We probably will eventually look at taking the bridge out and putting in a box culvert.”

Work also is set to start soon on the High Street bridge. The project has a start date of March 3 and is expected to be finished by July 15.

“That contractor has been in contact with me and has been ordering materials so he can get started on March 3,” Moeller said. “A portion of High Street will be closed so the public should avoid that area.”
