BOYS SOCCER: St. Marys opens season with 8-2 win over New Knoxville

NEW KNOXVILLE – The St. Marys boys soccer team dominated play on offense in an 8-2 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers in the opening game for both teams Thursday.

Zac Nelson and Brennan Brown each had two goals. Zack Wilker, Patrizio Martinez Rodriguez, Matt Dine and Tyler Parent scored goals.

 Zac Nelson put the ball in the back of the net for the first goal of the game with 24:15 left.

New Knoxville broke up the shutout on a penalty shot when Andrew Mackie scored with 8:20 left in the first half.

The Rangers ended the scoring when Goncalo Branco scored with 14 minutes left to make the final score 8-2.

Dean Frankenberg had 17 saves in the game for the Rangers on 26 shots, while Luke Leffel had five saves on seven shots for the Riders.

The Riders (1-0) travel to Temple Christian on Monday, while the Rangers (0-1) entertain Indian Lake on Monday at 5 p.m.
