DEFIANCE — The St. Marys boys basketball team gave the Western Buckeye League’s top team all it could handle, but a 30-point night from Tory Guilliam helped Defiance get past a feisty Roughrider squad, 77-71.
The Roughriders got into a shootout with the unbeaten Bulldogs and stayed with them almost shot-for-shot, hitting 10 three-pointers.
St. Marys led 17-16 after one quarter and trailed 33-32 at the half. It was still a one-point game heading into the fourth quarter before Defiance outscored the Roughriders 25-20 in the fourth.
St. Marys senior forward J.D. Meyer scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Riders, who fell to 5-9 and 1-4 in the WBL.
Guilliam buried five 3-pointers in his 30-point night for a Defiance offense that turned the ball over just nine times to St. Marys’ 18 miscues.
St. Marys’ Garet Fledderjohann hit four 3-pointers and scored 17 points. Austin James’ three treys gave him nine points and Dustin Fisher also had nine.
St. Marys reached the 70-point barrier for the third time this season. The Riders won the other two games. It’s the first time St. Marys had scored 70 points in a game and lost since losing to Wapakoneta 80-77 in January of 2008.

VAN WERT 63, CELINA 61
CELINA— Jacob Myers scored 32 points and Van Wert kept pace in the Western Buckeye League with a 63-61 win over Celina on Friday night.
Myers went 11-of-23 from the floor for his game-high total to go with his game-high 10 rebounds.
Celina’s Scott Moeder led the way for the Bulldogs with 25 points.
Van Wert improved to 10-3, 4-1 in the WBL. Celina fell to 5-8, 1-4 in the WBL.
Celina shot 50 percent from the floor (25-for-50) while Van Wert went 24-for-48 for 50 percent from the floor, as well.
O-G 52, WAPAK 34
WAPAKONETA — One player, two minutes, nine points.
Michael Rosebrock scored nine unanswered points in a 12-0 third-quarter run to lift the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans to a 52-34 win over the Wapakoneta Redskins in a Western Buckeye League varsity boys basketball game Friday night at Wapakoneta High School.
Rosebrook finished with 11 points in the quarter — all in the first four minutes — on his way to a game-high 22 points. He was 6-of-8 (75 percent) from the floor and 10-of-12 (83 percent) from the free throw line.
O-G outrebounded the Redskins 23-15 overall.
