ROCKFORD — The Minster Wildcats looked to snap a two-game Midwest Athletic Conference losing streak Friday night against the Parkway Panthers. The Wildcats bounced back with a 55-33 victory.

Minster shot just 6-of-20 in the first half but then made 13-of-20 in the second half.

Parkway’s zone defense shook the Wildcats off to a slow start and found their first field-goal of the night at the 4:17 mark off a Jacob Stechschulte three-pointer.

Minster scored just 18 points in the first half but held Parkway to only 10 points.

“Defensively it was hard to get upset with giving up just ten points at halftime,” Minster coach Mike Lee said. “We were just in a funk offensively. Some of that was the defense that they played. Sometimes we were getting good looks and sometimes we forced it and the outcome result was not a very clean half.”

Another triple from Stechschulte gave Minster an 8-2 lead but Parkway’s Austin Adams responded to cut the deficit to five at the end of the first quarter.

Parkway held Minster to eight second quarter points but the Panthers were able to score just six.

A triple from Stechschulte started the rally for Minster’s 18 points in the third quarter. Adam Niemeyer and Devon Poeppelman then rallied eight points for the Wildcats offense and Minster took a 14-point advantage, 32-18.

The Panthers cut the deficit to 14 points and then an Austin Adams triple at the buzzer brought Parkway within 12 at the end of the third.

The Panthers were looking to pick up its first MAC win of the season and with a 4-0 spurt to start the fourth quarter but Poeppelman’s drive and Ethan Wolf’s back-to-back buckets secured Minster a 47-33 lead with less than three minutes in action. Minster then scored the final eight points of the game.

“We made some few minor adjustments at the half and moved the basketball to the middle of the floor,” Lee said. “Its a league opponent and hopefully we can move forward from here.”

Wolf led all scorers with 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Poeppelman had 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. He went 4-of-7 from long range.

Stechschulte finished with nine points and three assists. Niemeyer posted seven assists along with five points and four rebounds.

Adams had 13 points for Parkway.

Minster improves to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in the MAC. Parkway falls to 1-14 on the season and 0-5 in the league.
