COLDWATER —  Defense and hot shooting allowed the Minster Wildcats to open Division IV sectional play at Coldwater with a 58-48 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers.

“It is a nice time of the year to be shooting 47 percent,” Wildcats head coach Mike Lee said. “That has been our bugaboo the past couple weeks. It is tournament time and we have stressed from the get go that games are won by what you do defensively and how well you rebound the basketball.”

Minster (10-11) will face Fort Recovery in the sectional final on Friday at 6:15, while New Knoxville ends their season at 9-12.

Devon Poeppelman stepped up and had 23 points and five rebounds followed by Austin Knapke with nine points. Ethan Wolf added eight points.

New Knoxville bows out at 9-12 for the season.

Lucas Leffel led the Rangers with 22 points in his final game for the Rangers. Jake Allen added 10 points.
