SPENCERVILLE — Derek Goecke’s short jump shot with three seconds left in double overtime proved to be the game winner, as the Bearcats defeated the Minster Wildcats, 55-53, on Friday night.
“We went late to our ball screen action,” Spencerville head coach Kevin Sensabaugh said. “It worked for us because they had trouble defending the ball screen late and we felt we had a little advantage. We asked Eli (Bowers) where he wanted to catch the ball and him and Derek (Goecke) had a two-man game on the weak side and they executed and scored.”
Devon Poeppelman and Adam Niemeyer each scored 18 points for Minster.
“The game was just about to get away from us,” Minster head coach Mike Lee said. “Late in the third quarter we were down nine or 10, but the positive that you have to take away is that the kids kept clawing back and we just didn’t execute in a couple situations where we had chances.”
Spencerville (3-3) entertains New Knoxville next Friday, while Minster (1-4) entertains Botkins next Friday.
