NEW BREMEN — Among the streets full of garage sales, the Friends of the New Bremen Public Library is having a sale of its own.
The group is hosting a book and bake sale, which ran until 5 p.m. Friday and runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, at the library, located at 45 W. Washington St., New Bremen. The sale can be accessed through the door at the side of the building.
A wide selection of books and videos filled the back room at the New Bremen Public Library Friday afternoon, materials that Volunteer Sally Fark said were collected by the Friends of the New Bremen Public Library.
“A lot of the books are donated and some of the books are from the library’s collection (that are no longer needed),” Fark said.
Books were available for $3 a bag and included a wide variety of adult books — in paperback and hardback — young adult books, children’s books and how-to books.
A selection of young adult series were for sale, including “The Hardy Boys” and “Thoroughbred,” and a box stuffed with several issues of National Geographic Magazine was also available at the sale.
“You can fill a bag with as many books as you can fit in it for $3,” Fark said.
DVDs were available for $1 each and included a selection of popular blockbuster titles and television shows.
In addition to the wall of videos and the tables of books that lined the room, another table displayed a selection of baked goods — including cookies, brownies and cupcakes, among other sweet treats — that were also available at the sale.
“People donated the baked goods as well,” Fark said, noting that the baked goods were sold for a donation.
The Friends of the New Bremen Public Library hold the annual sale to help raise funds for the library and its programs, as all proceeds from the sale are put back into the library, Fark said.
In addition to organizing and collecting the books for the sale, the friends also enlist a group of area volunteers to help run the sale.
“Volunteers run the sale,” Fark said, noting that not all of the volunteers are a part of the Friends of the New Bremen Public Library.
