MINSTER — Beer rookies and connoisseurs alike are invited to Four Seasons Park Saturday for the fourth annual beer tasting event, Bock and Rock.
The event begins at 4 p.m. for VIPs and at 6 p.m. for general admission today. General admission tickets for Bock and Rock are $20 pre-sale and $25 at the gate and include 15 sample tickets, a complimentary sampling glass, live entertainment and a sampling guide.
VIP tickets are $40, or $320 for a table of eight. There are only a few tables remaining for VIPs. The VIP package includes all the benefits of general admission in addition to access to the VIP area.
Designated drivers may attend the event for $10 and will receive bottled water and live entertainment. Anyone attending the event, including designated drivers, must be at least 21-years-old.
Organizer Shawn Sharp said the event typically draws a diverse crowd.
“We get people that have never tried these types of beer before in their life, and then we have the regular brew masters and brewers that come, and we really appreciate that, too,” Sharp said.
“We get the whole spectrum of people.”
Sharp noted Bock and Rock is a good way for people to try several types of beers and to have a good time.
“It’s a nice way to try a lot of different things and step out of the box a little bit for something you may not have ever tried before and not have to spend a whole lot of money to try something out,” he said.
The event can widen the horizons of people that have not tried many different types of beer, he noted.

“It’s something different for people to experience if they’ve been set on their ways when it comes to the beers they drink,” Sharp said.
“It’s a nice way to try something new and not have to spend a whole bunch of money and it all goes to a good cause.”
Proceeds of Bock and Rock benefit the Minster Civic Association.
“We (the Minster Civic Association) have scholarships that we give away, we support the local fire department, EMTs, scouts — you name it, we pretty much get our hands in it,” Sharp said.
This year’s event features approximately 90 styles of beer for regular admission and an appearance by brew master Luke Purcell of Great Lakes Brewing Company for VIPs.
“He’s going to go through all the beers that Great Lakes has available as of this time,” Sharp said.
“Some brews are seasonal. They are bringing a specialty ale, which they are going to be tapping inside the VIP. It’s something a little special the VIPs get in addition to the regular admission to the main tasting. We serve all the beers to them and they have food in there.”
Sharp noted that people have enjoyed having a brew master.
“People really like listening to the brew master,” he said. “He explains how they’re made, how he gets the flavor characteristics and flavor profiles of each beer. It’s a lot of fun.”
Karma’s Pawn will also be performing at the event.
“We’ve had them two years in a row now,” Sharp said. “They’re a very popular local band. They play a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll – a very good mix.”
Sharp said the event is an opportunity to try new beer styles and is not simply a group of “beer snobs.”
“I think it’s people that like to try different things and that’s what we’re doing out there,” he said.
Pre-sale tickets are available at Wagner’s IGA in Minster or at BockAndRock.com.
