Billie Shelton, 73, of Lima, died at 6:10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at his residence.
He was born on May 27, 1938, in Jackson, Ky., to Bud and Mary Combs Shelton, and they preceded him in death.
On April 7, 2003, he married Hester Robinson, and she survives him in Lima.
He is also survived by a son, Patrick Shelton of Lima; two daughters, Amy L. (Donnie) Neace of Wapakoneta and Cherry Rose (Mike) Wells of Holiday, Fla.; a sister, Emma Pearson of Berea, Ky.; three grandchildren, Steven Burd, Justin Wells and Laticia (Shawn) Cox; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Leim Cox.
He was preceded in death by two bothers, Stewart Shelton and Richard Fugate; five sisters, Nellie Combs, Addie Mason, Mary Shelton, Amy Shelton and Lydia Banks; four infant sisters, Alice Shelton, Vicey Shelton, Mary Shelton and Oma Shelton; a grandson, Michael Burd.
Mr. Shelton retired in 1990 after working more than 20 years in construction with the Laborer’s Local Union 329.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1966.
He was a member of the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church. Billie will be most remembered for being a good Christian family man.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel, with the Rev. Ken Waldroup officiating.
Military rites will be performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.
Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, north of Middlepoint.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Today and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church.
