Betty Jordan, 88

Betty Jordan, 88, of 11324 Bobwhite Lane in St. Marys, died on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at her residence.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1924, in St. Marys, to Dr. George and Mildred (Mack) Place.

On June 10, 1945, in St. Marys, she married Robert Jordan, who died on April 30, 2006.

She is survived by a son, Gregory (Joyce) Jordan  of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Linda Jordan Ruane  of St. Marys and Marsha (Dave) Sandkuhl  of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Rob Jordan, Jennifer Jordan, Luke (Amy) Ruane, Thomas Ruane, Bill (Nan) Ruane, Nate Sandkuhl and Kari Sandkuhl; four great-grandchildren, Noelle, Trent, Gia and L.J.; a brother, George William Place  of St. Marys.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. George and Mildred Place; brother Dr. Robert Place.

She was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School (Class of 1941) and Ohio State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in education. While at the university, she enjoyed performing comical voices for shows aired on the campus radio station.

She worked for the St. Marys City Schools, having taught English at McBroom Jr. High School.

She was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys.

Her favorite pastimes included playing cards and attending OSU football games.  She and her family treasured the wonderful memories of time spent together at their home on Lake Wawasee, Ind., and at their winter home in Cave Creek, Ariz.

Rites are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Miller–Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St. in St. Marys, the Rev. Vincent Lavieri, officiating.

Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home on High Street.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Benevolent Fund at Otterbein in St. Marys.
