Betty Jane Koons, 76

Betty Jane Koons, 76, former resident of Port Jefferson, joyfully passed through heaven’s gates at 12:03 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty Jane was born on Sept. 13, 1936, in Sidney, the daughter of the late Walter and Luella (Kinninger) Fahnestock of Sidney.

Roy “Bob” Koons married Betty Jane Fanestock on Jan. 23, 1954, and they shared over 59 years together.

In addition to her husband, Betty Jane is survived by her children, Deborah Cisco and her husband William, of West Liberty, Sheila Robinson and her husband Willie, of Sidney, Aaron Koons and his wife Karen, of Sidney; five grandchildren, Eric Cisco, Brad Cisco, Amber Bales Taylor, Joshua Koons and Samantha Koons; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Andrew, Gage, Hunter, Kayleigh, Autumn, Zavien, Isabella, Desmond and Isabelle; two brothers, Don (Judy) Fahnestock, of Mount Dora, Fla.; Darrell (Shirley) Fahnestock, of Springfield; and one sister, Doris Dowden and special friend Harry Maggiori, of Tavares, Fla.

A homemaker, Betty Jane attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Sidney. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1954. She was a remarkable woman who will be remembered as a selfless caregiver of all. She would always tend to others’ needs ahead of herself.

Betty Jane loved life and laughter and had an infectious smile.  She enjoyed camping and fishing with her family and friends. She loved to cook and bake and was well known for her famous sugar cookies, coco cake and culinary desserts.

Betty Jane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1899 Wapakoneta Ave., Sidney the Revs. Chad Wilson and Lloyd McClure, officiating.

Burial will follow at Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson.

Visiting hours for family and friends will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice Care, 1081 Fairington Drive, Sidney in Betty Jane’s memory.

Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
