Bertha M. King, 96

Bertha M. King, 96, of Lima, died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Otterbein Nursing Home in Cridersville.

She was born on Oct. 3, 1914, in New Bremen, to Henry and Emma (Solemann) Schowe, and they preceded her in death.

On Aug. 12, 1939, she married Walter L. King, and he preceded her in death on May 4, 2003.

She is survived by a daughter, Gloria (Donald) Olson of Bonsall, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth King of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Herbert Schowe; two sisters, Lillian Schowe and Esther Schowe.

She is a graduate of New Bremen High School. She obtained her teaching certificate from Bowling Green State University and taught elementary school for a few years. She also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Wisterman.

Bertha was an active member of First Evangelical and Reformed Church in Lima for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Shawnee Chapel Chiles-Laman Funeral Home in Lima, with the Rev. Edward Rinehart officiating. Burial will be held in German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
