ST. MARYS 5, VAN WERT 3
For the second time in two weeks the Roughriders downed the Cougars, emerging with a 5-3 win on Tuesday night at K.C. Geiger Park in the one that will count towards the WBL standings.
St. Marys' Nick Vogel came out of the bullpen to replace Rider starter Tyler Roby. Vogel threw five shutout innings to earn the victory for the Roughriders. He retired the side in order in the twice and struck out five.
“Nick had a really gutty performance and did a good job for us,” St. Marys head coach Dave Huber said. “We were able to close the door and get some runs. It turned out the way we wanted it to.”
MINSTER 10, BOTKINS 1
MINSTER — The Minster baseball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 10-1 win over Botkins on Tuesday night.
Andrew Knapke earned the win on the mound for the Wildcats.
Adam Niemeyer went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Doug Huber went 2-for-2 with two RBI for the Wildcats.
Greve went 2-for-3 with a double for Botkins.
NEW KNOXVILLE — Seven errors hampered the New Knoxville baseball team, leading to five unearned runs for Lima Perry in the Commodores’ 11-0 five-inning win on Tuesday.
Drew Smith pitched the complete game shutout victory for Perry, allowing only five hits.
New Knoxville senior Lucas Leffel took the loss on the mound, giving up 11 runs on nine hits. Only five of the runs were earned, however.
The Rangers (1-2) entertain Parkway in a MAC contest on Thursday.
ANNA 11, NEW BREMEN 3
NEW BREMEN — Anna turned a close game into a runaway with three runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth in an 11-3 victory over New Bremen on Tuesday night.
New Bremen avoided being shut out by scoring three runs in the final two innings, but a combination of Rocket starter Robinson and reliever Showalter held the Cardinals to three runs on four hits.
Brent Bertke worked five innings in the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits while striking out four. He held the Rockets to just two runs through the game’s first four innings.
Anna improved to 4-0. New Bremen is 3-4.
WAPAKONETA 4, SHAWNEE 1
LIMA — Wapakoneta’s Johnny Crawford was an out away from a no-hitter before it was broken up in seventh. But Crawford still earned the shutout and the Redskins beat the Indians 4-1. Wapak improved to 8-1 and bounced back from its first loss of the season the night before against Minster.
ELIDA 5, CELINA 2
CELINA — Elida’s Mackenzie Hampshire went 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead Elida.
Celina fell to 5-2, 0-1 in the WBL.
