Barbara Lee (Boehringer) Norton, 58, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born on April 23, 1954, to Paul and Wilma (Riffle) Boehringer, and they preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Amy Norton (Lukas Lehmann) of the Isle of Gigha, Scotland, and Jamie (William) Goudy, of Wapakoneta; a granddaughter, Kieran Goudy; her brothers, Joseph Boehringer of Elbert, Colo., and his son James, Robert Boehringer of Garden City, Kan., and his son Ryan and Timothy Boehringer of Greenville and his son, Devin.
Barbara graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1972, and gained a business associate degree from Davis College in Toledo in 1974. She spent several years as a stay-at-home mother before returning to school to pursue her dream of teaching. She obtained a bachelor’s of education from The Ohio State University in 1990 and a master’s from the University of Findlay in 1998.
She taught in the Wapakoneta City Schools for 22 years, first in special education at the high school and then in middle school, most recently teaching sixth grade social studies and science.
She was committed to serving her community through holding positions on church council and the teachers’ union, volunteer work at God’s Storehouse and teaching Sunday school. She also helped out at her daughter’s store, The Herb Ladies, with her knowledge of natural remedies. Her favorite activity was spending time with her “bestest buddy,” Kieran.
She was a beloved mother and grandma, a dedicated teacher and a loyal friend. She will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wapakoneta Community Worship Center, which she attended, and friends will have an opportunity to share their memories.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Dollars ForScholars.
