Baby Boutique Open To Public

November 1, 2011

ST. MARYS — A local organization has opened shop to the public to provide baby-related products to area residents at a lower cost.

The Baby Boutique, of the Family Life Center of Auglaize County, is now open to the public. The once member-only boutique provides new or gently used baby products at a discounted rate. Family Life Center Director Candice Dicke said the change was made to bring awareness of what the center has to offer area residents.

“We wanted to make more people aware of it (the Baby Boutique),” Dicke said. “With the winter coming up, we’ve got plenty of clothes, and we want them (area residents) to be aware.”

The shop offers area parents a slew of items.

“We have children’s clothing, from newborn to 4T, bedding, blankets, children’s jackets, some toys, diaper bags, a bassonette and some strollers,” Dicke said of items carried in the Baby Boutique.

Dicke noted that the Baby Boutique offers low prices on its merchandise.

“We very rarely have anything over $1.50,” she said. “Most things are between 75 cents and $1.50.”

Baby Boutique Club members and people using social services, such as Medicaid, Social Security or Food Stamps, are entitled to a discount. Diapers are also available for Baby Boutique Club members.

Young, expectant parents can also earn baby bucks to spend in the Baby Boutique through the Family Life Center’s Earn to Learn program. The program provides information on topics such as bonding with your unborn baby, what’s safe and what isn’t and the amazing talents of a newborn among others. The program also includes informational parenting videos.

Dicke noted that anyone interested in participating in the Earn to Learn program can visit the Family Learning Center at their convenience or complete the program online.

“A lot of times it’s difficult for teens to attend a class,” Dicke said. “They can come in for an Earn to Learn class on their own schedules, and they can also do it online.”

Dicke said the online program can be accessed by visiting the Family Life Center’s website and calling to obtain a password. A record is kept of what courses are completed.

“It’s a great service that we offer that they can complete in the comfort of their own home,” Dicke said.

Dicke noted the center also takes donations of new or gently used baby-related products to keep the Baby Boutique stocked.
