Area Grad Updates: Fleagle named First Team All Big Ten

Ohio State sophomore and St. Marys native Josh Fleagle earned First Team All Big Ten honors in Ann Arbor.

Josh Fleagle, an Ohio State sophomore swimmer and St. Marys native, was named First Team All Big Ten at the conference championship swim meet last weekend. Fleagle was part of the 200 free relay team that captured the Big Ten title with a 1:17.93 time last Friday and was part of the third-place 200 medley relay on Wednesday and the third-place 400 freestyle relay team on Saturday. Individually, he finished sixth in the men’s 100 freestyle with a 43.19 second time — the third-fastest time in Ohio State history. Ohio State finished third as a team at the championships at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich.  Ohio State will tune up for the NCAA tournament with a dual meet against Georgia Tech on Sunday in Atlanta. The NCAA tournament will take place March 27-29 in Austin, Texas.

Adam Niemeyer, Ohio State
Adam Niemeyer, a freshman pitcher at Ohio State and a 2013 Minster grad, made his debut as a Buckeye on Feb. 15 in Ohio State’s 7-3 loss to Indiana State. Niemeyer worked two innings, giving up three runs on five hits. The Buckeyes are 7-3 on the season and play a three-game series this weekend against the Oregon Ducks in Eugene. Ohio State opens home play in Columbus on Friday, March 14 against Siena.

Marcus Reineke, Cedarville
Marcus Reineke, a Cedarville junior guard and New Knoxville grad, led the Yellow Jackets at 18.5 points per game this season. Reineke shot a team-best 43 percent from 3-point range and 84 percent at the free throw line to go along with 3.4 rebounds per game. Cedarville finished 10-18 this season.

Caleb and Troy Williams, Mt. Vernon Nazarene
Caleb and Troy Williams, Mount Vernon Nazarene forwards and New Bremen grads, both were key contributors for the Cougars  (7-22) this season. Caleb, a senior, averaged 11.1 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game. Troy, a sophomore, put up 2.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per contest.

Ryan VanderHorst, Walsh
Ryan VanderHorst, a Walsh senior guard and New Knoxville grad, has played in 12 games for the Cavaliers this season. He averages 2.1 points and a rebound per contest. Walsh (22-5) travels to Findlay on Saturday for a GLAC tourney semifinal game at 1 p.m. against Charlie Ernst and the Oilers.
