Area Athletes: Local Grads in thick of conference schedules

Marcus Reineke, Cedarville
Reineke, a Cedarville freshman and New Knoxville grad, scored seven points, grabbed a rebound and dished out an assist in Cedarville’s 83-68 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday in Owensboro, Kentucky. Reineke has played in all nine Yellow Jacket games and is averaging 7.1 points per game with a 51.7 percent shooting percentage from beyond the three-point arc (15-of-29).Cedarville is 6-3 on the season and will be at Southern Indiana on Saturday in Evansville.

Tony Meyer and Scott Schnelle, ONU
Scott Schnelle, an ONU senior and New Bremen grad, filled up the stat sheet in the Polar Bears’ 82-71 win over John Carroll on Saturday night with nine points, seven rebounds, five blocks and three assists. Schnelle is averaging 10.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and three blocks per game for John Rhodes’ squad. Tony Meyer, an ONU senior and New Knoxville grad, added two assists and a rebound for the Polar Bears. Meyer averages three points, 1.6 rebounds and over two assists per game. Ohio Northern, with is 5-2 and 2-1 in the OAC, travels to Marietta on Saturday for an OAC battle.

Caleb Williams, Mt. Vernon Nazarene
Caleb Williams, a Mount Vernon Nazarene sophomore and New Bremen grad, added two points, three rebounds and three assists in the Cougars’ 101-67 loss to Hope (Michigan) on Saturday night. Williams averages 7.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and more than two assists per game. Mount Vernon is 5-7 on the season and plays at at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical (Fla.) on Friday night.

Ryan VanderHorst, Walsh
VanderHorst, a Walsh sophomore and New Knoxville grad, had three rebounds and an assist on Wednesday night in Walsh’s 91-64 win over Urbana. In seven games, VanderHorst is averaging 2.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. Walsh is 7-1 on the season and goes to at Akron-Wayne College on Friday night.

Brad Piehl, Findlay
Piehl, a Findlay junior and New Knoxville grad, scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds in Findlay’s 75-63 win over Saginaw Valley on Saturday.  Piehl averages 10.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game for the 7-2 Oilers, who host Tiffin tonight at 8 p.m.
