ST. MARYS — The hot, sunny weather has brought many St. Marys residents to the Family Aquatic Center to take a ride down one of the slides, play around in the jungle gym, jump off the diving board or simply to relax. Pool Manager Katie Hertenstein said the Family Aquatic Center has had a steady 400 to 600 guests a day. Those figures fall into the “normal range” for the pool. “I think it’s been perfect,” Hertenstein said. “It’s been crowded but not too crowded that it isn’t fun. It’s been great.” The Family Aquatic Center does not typically hold events or special nights, Hertenstein said. Hertenstein noted the pool tried to hold a teen night; however, it was not popular so they stopped holding the event. “I think we draw people out without having to do things,” Hertenstein said. Wednesday afternoons; however, are special at the pool. The lifeguards play games with the children at the pool, breaking the children into three age groups. Children can search for pennies at the bottom of the pool, swim through a hula-hoop and make the biggest splash off the diving board. Hertenstein noted that the children have fun with the games. Several children at the pool enjoy splashing through the waterfalls and climbing around on the jungle gym in the middle of the pool. Jordan Moore said he and his brother, Carter, are at the pool almost every day. He said he likes getting to go to the pool frequently and enjoying all the pool has to offer. “I like to go off the diving boards,” Jordan said. “And I like going down the slide. It’s fun.” Carter said he enjoyed jumping around and playing with his toy sharks in the water. Sisters Lillian and Jade Ball also bring their toys to the pool. “We like to play with our Barbies in the pool,” Lillian said, noting that the sisters like to play a rescue game with their dolls. Lillian also liked the slide. “I went down the slide today,” Lillian said. “It was fun.” The Family Aquatic Center is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
