Alleged Robber Enters Plea

CELINA — The suspect believed to be responsible for robbing a Celina bank in November asserted his innocence on Monday.

Cody Maxwell, 22, pleaded innocent to one count each of robbery and theft during an arraignment hearing in Mercer County Common Pleas Court. Maxwell, who is being held on a $750,000 bond with a 10 percent cash provision, is being held in the Mercer County Jail as his case proceeds through the court system. Maxwell was ordered to appear for a pretrial hearing at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 8.

Maxwell is accused of robbing the Peoples Bank on West Logan Street on Nov. 15. He fled the scene and was arrested on Nov. 26 following a traffic stop.

Maxwell allegedly walked into the bank and demanded money from a teller. He also allegedly indicated he had a weapon on him at the time of the robbery.

The FBI, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Coldwater Police Department, St. Marys Police Department, Grand Lake Task Force, Butler Township Police Department, Huber Heights Police Department, New Castle (Indiana) Police Department and the Henry County (Indiana) Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search for Maxwell.
