Alfrieda L. Wessel, 103

Alfrieda L. Wessel, 103, formerly of 307 N. Chestnut St., St. Marys, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Golden Living Center – Valley in St. Marys.

She was born on May 7, 1908, in St. Marys, to Henry and Emma (Wierwille) Quellhorst, and they preceded her in death.

On June 20, 1929, in Auglaize County, she married Earl “Heinie” Wessel, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 1980.

She is survived by two sons, James (Eileen) Wessel of St. Marys and Geary Wessel of St. Marys; a daughter, Mary Ann (James) Rempe of St. Marys; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Wessel; two great-great grandsons, Austin McDorman and Maverick Fishbaugh; her brothers, Richard Quellhorst, Clifford Quellhorst, Alton Quellhorst and Roger Quellhorst; a sister, Cordelia McDermitt; a daughter-in-law, Betty Wessel.

She was a homemaker and worked as domestic help for various families. She also worked as a custodian for the St. Marys City Schools.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys and the New Bremen Historical Society.

Rites are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel), St. Marys, with the Rev. Ed Bray officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul’s UCC memorial fund.
