Following a 0-0 deadlock at the end of the first period, St. Marys lit up the scoreboard first in their rivalry battle with Wapakoneta when Terry Young blasted through the Redskin defense for the 22-yard score. The extra point run was unsuccessful, but the Roughriders stayed in command by six points in the second period.
The score stayed the same as the two teams headed to the locker room at the halftime break, but a 67-yard drive by Wapakoneta early in the third period put them in front, 8-6 following their two-point conversion.
On the second snap of the fourth quarter, St. Marys running back Tom Hollman sprinted 49 yards for pay dirt. Clyde Price crossed the goal line for the PAT, and the Roughriders took command, 14-8.
With 3:43 left in the contest, Wapakoneta’s final drive ended with a one-yard touchdown plunge. The two-point conversion pass was batted down and the contest eventually ended in a tie.View more articles in:
