1 Killed In Mercer Co. Crash

October 25, 2013

CELINA — The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash that took place along U.S. 33 Friday night.

At 4:03 p.m. Friday, Mercer County Central Dispatch received multiple 911calls in reference to a crash on U.S. 33, east of Celina Mendon Road in Center Township.  A 52-year-old male from out of state was operating a 2007 GMC Budget rental box truck west bound on U.S. 33.  For an unknown reason, the truck traveled off the north side of U.S. 33.  The driver overcorrected and brought the truck back onto the roadway, overcorrected again causing the truck to overturn.

The male driver was ejected from the truck and became pinned under it.  There was also a male juvenile passenger inside the truck who was transported to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The 52-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Coroner Dr. Timothy Heinrichs.

The names of the driver and passenger are not being released until next of kin can be properly notified. The sheriff’s office was assisted on scene by the Mendon-Union Fire Department, and MCERV.
