The St. Marys girls tennis team closed out the home portion of their schedule with a 3-2 loss to Bluffton on Monday.
St. Marys has lost three straight home matches by that narrow 3-2 score, with a doubles match making the difference.
“It was a familiar script,” St. Marys head coach Brice Brenneman said. “That was a pretty solid first doubles team we were going up against and we had things going our way, but it slipped away from us.”

CELINA — Both teams seemed on the cusp of breaking through on Saturday night. Instead, the St. Marys and Celina boys soccer teams played to a scoreless tie for the second straight season.
Shots rattled off the crossbar, goalkeepers soared through the air to make vital saves and both St. Marys and Celina — after waiting two extra days to renew their rivalry — ended up waiting all 80 minutes for a goal that never appeared.
VERAILLES — The Minster boys golf team ran away from the rest of the field and captured the Midwest Athletic Conference boys golf title at Stillwater on Saturday.
Minster shot a 313, led by tournament medalist John Burke’s 76, to win the MAC tourney title by 20 strokes. Parkway finished second with a 333 score. Versailles, which entered the tournament along with Minster unbeaten in league play, finished third with a 341 score.
ST. MARYS — Elida used a huge game on the ground from quarterback Logan Alexander to stop a two-game losing streak in a 34-14 win over St. Marys at Skip Baughman Stadium on a deluged Friday night.
Now the Bulldogs will have to find a way to win without their sophomore signal caller next week.
SHAWNEE -- Carter Bowman knocked on the door for two years. Now the St. Marys junior golfer has been crowned the Western Buckeye League’s best.
Bowman emerged on the third hole of a playoff at the Western Buckeye League Championship meet at Shawnee Country Club to cap a big Friday. Bowman shot an even par 72, beat Kenton’s Britton Hensel in the playoff for the tournament’s medalist honors and took home the WBL’s Player of the Year award.

If the St. Marys defense can keep Elida from getting past the first level of its defense, head coach Greg Phillips feels good about his team’s chances this week at home against quarerback Logan Alexander and Elida’s balanced spread offense.

LIMA — The St. Marys volleyball team has completely turned around its season . Thursday night’s road win was just more proof of that transformation. The Roughriders rolled to 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 win at Bath to win for the fifth time in their last six matches and improve to 3-1 in the Western Buckeye League.
After losing their first five matches of the season, St. Marys (5-8, 3-1 WBL) has now won three straight in WBL play.
