NEW KNOXVILLE – Going into the fourth quarter the Parkway Panthers held an eight- point lead, but the New Knoxville Rangers turned on the offense to outscore the Panthers 26-7 in the final eight minutes to win, 51-41.

Boys Basketball: St. Marys drubs Sidney

ST. MARYS — Quinn Zaerr’s finest performance of his first varsity season showed just what kind of an inside-outside threat the 6-foot-4 sophomore can become.

Zaerr’s complete game was on display as he scored 24 points, drained a trio of 3-pointers and beat up Sidney in the post with 17 rebounds in St. Marys’ 64-44 win on Saturday night.

Girls Basketball Round-Up: Rangers hit eight treys in win over Riders

ST. MARYS — New Knoxville’s surrounding cast took a leading role in a 46-32 win over St. Marys on Saturday afternoon.

Meg Reineke scored a game-high 16 points and Caitlin Magoto knocked down four 3-pointers for 12 points in the Rangers’ ninth straight win.

Boys Basketball: St. Marys can't stay with Defiance

ST. MARYS — St. Marys’ offense abruptly stalled in the fourth quarter and the Roughriders never got the momentum back in a 64-47 home  loss to Defiance on Friday night.

St. Marys went 1-for-9 from the floor in the fourth quarter and scored just three points as another Western Buckeye League game slipped out of reach.

Boys Basketball: Big start propels New Bremen past New Knoxville

NEW BREMEN — It was another defensive physical game for the New Bremen Cardinals basketball team and they came away with a 60-48 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers Friday in a Midwest Athletic Conference contest played at New Bremen.

New Bremen built a 29-12 halftime lead, as they won their ninth straight game and trail only MAC unbeaten St. Henry in the conference standings.

Boys Basketball: Minster pulls away from Parkway

ROCKFORD — The Minster Wildcats looked to snap a two-game Midwest Athletic Conference losing streak Friday night against the Parkway Panthers. The Wildcats bounced back with a 55-33 victory.

Minster shot just 6-of-20 in the first half but then made 13-of-20 in the second half.

WRESTLING: St. Marys goes 8-1 in WBL dual matches

OTTAWA —  The St. Marys wrestling team finished off an 8-1 run through the Western Buckeye League dual matches with a pair of wins against Ottawa-Glandorf and Van Wert on Thursday night at Robert J. Hermiller Gymnasium in Ottawa.

The Roughriders drubbed Ottawa-Glandorf 77-3 in the opening match and then beat Van Wert, 50-22, in their WBL dual match finale.

“We wrestled pretty well most of the time,” St. Marys head coach Larry Gruber said.

GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUND-UP: Riders win at Defiance; Minster, New Knoxville earn MAC wins

DEFIANCE — A trio of Roughriders reached double-figures and the St. Marys girls basketball team’s long trek north to Defiance was rewarded with a 51-41 win on Thursday night.

Kelsey Rohrbach led St. Marys with 13 points, Molly Albert added 12 points and Kelly Heitkamp scored 11 points for the Roughriders.

The Roughriders improved to 3-12 and 2-4 in the Western Buckeye League. The win also snapped an eight-game losing streak and gave the Riders’ their first win since Dec. 13 against Kenton.

ST. MARYS — A week after hitting six 3-pointers against Perry, St. Marys senior Austin James had a record-tying Saturday night from outside against Parkway.

James tied the school record with seven 3-pointers, Garet Fledderjohann added 20 points and the Roughriders won for the first time at home this season in a 72-53 romp over Parkway on Saturday night.

James’ seven treys ties Tom Burke’s seven 3-pointers against Sidney Lehman in 2005 for the Memorial High School single-game record. James finished with a game-high 21 points.
