GIRLS BASKETBALL: Rangers win, Cardinals lose on Saturday

NEW KNOXVILLE 45, SIDNEY LEHMAN CATHOLIC 38

SIDNEY — The New Knoxville girls basketball team outscored Sidney Lehman Catholic in the second and third quarters in a 45-38 win over the Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon.

New Knoxville freshman Meg Reineke scored a season-high 15 points. She knocked down three 3-pointers and six free throws. Ranger sophomore forward Paige Lehman added 12 points and Tiana Heidt scored nine points.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Coldwater's hot start too much for Rangers

COLDWATER — New Knoxville spotted Coldwater a big lead in the first quarter and fell short in a second-half comeback attempt in a 47-43 loss to the Cavaliers on Friday night at The Palace.

“Coldwater came ready to play and for whatever reason tonight we didn’t,” New Knoxville head coach Kort Fledderjohann said.

NEW BREMEN — Delphos St. John’s Curtis Geise took an inbounds pass and sped the length of the court to put in a lay-up with two seconds left to give the Blue Jays a 62-60 win and a share of the Midwest Athletic Conference lead.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Versailles rolls past Minster

VERSAILLES — Versailles  rolled past Minster 69-50 in a  Midwest Athletic Conference contest on Friday night.

Versailles came out ready right from the start as the Tigers opened the game on an 8-0 run, courtesy of three-pointers by Mitchell Campbell and Chad Winner, along with a basket by freshman Kyle Ahrens.

Minster’s Ryan Hoying hit a three-pointer to end the Tiger run, but Versailles led 8-3 with 4:30 remaining in the first quarter.

WAPAKONETA —The Wapakoneta Redskins held a 16-0 lead before St. Marys scored a point. The struggles continued in the second quarter as the Redskins built a 29-point halftime lead en route to a 61-27 victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Blue Jays outlast New Bremen, 38-30

DELPHOS — A 9-2 run in the final three minutes of the third quarter was what put the Delphos St. John’s Bluejays over the top as they defeated the New Bremen Cardinals Lady basketball team 38-30 Thursday evening in a MAC contest played at Delphos.

“We stayed with them,” Cardinals head coach Randy Eckert said. “We just had a few mental mistakes that cost us a few points. Our shot selection wasn’t the greatest at the end, but we have to shoot more and try to score.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Minster hits on all cylinders in win over Versailles

MINSTER — Minster dominated the second quarter in a 62-44  victory over Versailles in a Midwest Athletic Conference match-up on Thursday night.

“I think it was a team effort,” said Minster head coach Nann Stechschulte. “We tried to take away their strengths.”

Tara Clune led the Wildcats, who had 10 different players score, with 18 points.
