The St. Marys Roughrider volleyball team put together a strong fifth set and defeated the Greenville Green Wave 20-25, 25-13, 26-24, 21-25 and 15-5 on Monday.
“We started a little slow in the first set,” Riders head coach Tricia Rosenbeck said. “In the second and third sets we started to play more aggressively. In the fourth set we played off and on, but we put everything together in the fifth set.”
ST. MARYS — Celina’s players ran off the field 47-7 victors over St. Marys as the clocktower struck midnight. Many of the Bulldogs looked like they were freshly molded on a potter’s wheel, helmet-to-toe slathered in mud.
The Bulldogs scored 41 unanswered points after a two-hour weather wait — a post-lightning delay doggy paddling on the oozing field of Skip Baughman Stadium.
ST. MARYS 4, DEFIANCE 0: The St. Marys boys soccer team remained unbeaten after a 4-0 win at Defiance on Thursday night. The win pushed the Riders’ record to 7-0-2, 3-0-2 in Western Buckeye League play. Dylan Zink scored a pair of goals for the Roughriders. Zack Wilker and Nathan Wilker added a goal apiece for St. Marys. The Riders host Ottoville on Saturday night at 7 p.m. and then host Wapakoneta on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a WBL match.
CELINA — Van Wert won the Jordan Moeller Memorial by 10 strokes on Saturday at the Mercer County Elks course, while a quartet of area teams finished in the top eight. New Bremen took fourth with a 338 team score, Celina finished fifth with a 340, Minster was sixth with a 340 and St. Marys finished eighth with a 347. New Knoxville finished 16th with a 418.
