NEW BREMEN 64, FORT RECOVERY 55
COLDWATER — The New Bremen Cardinals survived a rough second quarter and made their free throws down the stretch to advance in the Division IV sectional tournament with a 64-55 victory over the Fort Recovery Indians at Coldwater. The Cardinals (13-8) will advance to the sectional championship on Friday at 8:00 against the Ada Bulldogs. Carson Manger led the Cardinals with 21 points and nine rebounds and Nolan Fox had 14 points.
ST. MARYS — Elida’s Dakota Mathias — as good as he is — needed some help from his friends as the Bulldogs missed wide open 3-pointer after 3-pointer in the second quarter and found themselves trailing an underdog St. Marys at the half.
The Elida standout got the needed aide in the second half as the Bulldogs pulled away from the upset-minded Roughriders 63-44 at The Horseshoe on Friday night.
NEW KNOXVILLE — Kyle Stahl scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead St. Henry to its first victory at The Barn in eight years with a 50-46 win on Friday night in Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The Redskins won at New Knoxville for the first time since 2005, overcoming New Knoxville senior Jake Allen’s 24-point, seven rebound game. Allen went 3-of-6 from 3-point range.
ST. MARYS — Wapakoneta convincingly beat what Redskin head wrestling coach Jason Rostorfer called the best Western Buckeye League foe his team has faced this season, 49-27, on senior night at Memorial High School on Thursday night.
The Redskins scored four straight pins in the upper weight classes midway through the match to take control.
ELIDA — It all came down to one final possession to decide the opening game of the annual Vicki Mauk Invitational Tournament on Thursday at the Elida Fieldhouse.
The Minster Wildcats trailed by one point but had the ball with 36 seconds left. The Wildcats’ Bridget Geiger got the rebound off a missed shot by Kayla Richard with 4.2 seconds left and was fouled by Imara Haynes. Geiger converted both shots and that was enough to give Minster a 57-56 victory over the Lima Senior Spartans.
