COLUMBUS (AP) — How a state panel of sports writers and broadcasters rates Ohio high school football teams in the fifth weekly Associated Press poll of 2012, by OHSAA divisions, with won-lost record and total points (first-place votes in parentheses):
NEW KNOXVILLE 3, LINCOLNVIEW 0: New Knoxville controlled action in a 25-14, 25-6, 25-18 win over the Lancers on Monday night in non-conference play. Meg Reineke led the way for the Rangers with 10 kills. Haley Horstman had seven kills. Sam Thobe added four kills. Kalyn Schroer had six aces, while Horstman, Reineke and Rachel Leffel had three aces apiece. Schroer led the way with 14 digs. Horstman had nine digs.
ST. MARYS — What was getting Wapakoneta down the field wasn’t producing points, so the Redskins employed a little razzle-dazzle to crack the scoreboard and take control of its rivalry game against the St. Marys Roughriders.
Wapakoneta’s 28-yard hook and lateral touchdown late in the second quarter staked the Redskins to a lead they’d never get close to losing. Wapak added a late touchdown and defeated St. Marys, 14-0, on a field at Skip Baughman Stadium that doubled as a marsh for the second time in three weeks.
VERSAILLES — On a wet and dreary night the Versailles Tigers football team did most of their damage in the second quarter as they built up a 28-0 halftime lead. They built on that in the second half and defeated the New Bremen Cardinals 42-8 Friday night at Versailles.
“They played better than us,” Cardinals head coach Jason McGaharan said. “Pick a phase and they played better than us.”
With a wet field it was hard to get any traction for either team., but McGarahan refused to let that be an excuse for his team.
COLDWATER — The Coldwater Lion’s Club cross country meet is a test run for the Midwest Athletic Conference meet for the conference’s teams. For other area squads the meet one of the final tune-ups before their respective league meets against one of the best area fields.
Van Wert’s boys and Coldwater’s girls teams both edged out Minster for team wins on Thursday evening.
