Hey, I Remember That!: A look back at area sports 10, 25 and 50 years ago

March 13, 2013

A look back at area sports headline from 10, 25 and 50 years ago:

50 Years Ago This Week – 1963

After suffering losses in four of their first five exhibition contests in the spring of 1963, the Cincinnati Reds took on the New York Mets fifty years ago this week in hopes of reversing their recent misfortunes on the diamond.

Suiting up on the hill for the Mets was St. Marys native Galen Cisco, who was eventually credited with the victory after the Redlegs fell by a final of 3-2 in the exhibition game.

March 2, 2013

LIMA — The St. Marys boys basketball team went basket for basket with Bath for a quarter, but the Wildcats’ relentless defensive pressure and array of offensive weapons proved to be too much.

BOYS HOOPS: New Bremen wins sectional title, Rangers bow out

March 2, 2013

COLDWATER – The odds were against the New Bremen Cardinals basketball team Friday night in the Division IV sectional championship at the Palace in Coldwater. They were without their head coach Adam Dougherty, who was sitting out the second game of his suspension from being ejected from the Delphos St. John’s game two weeks ago, and they had a 13-day layoff since their last game.

The Cardinals didn’t let the obstacles get in their way as they used a big third quarter run to defeat the Marion Local Flyers 53-45 for the sectional title.
