ST. MARYS — Ottawa-Glandorf emerged with a 58-54 win over the St. Marys boys basketball team on Friday night in a ragged, physical game that featured 65 combined free throws — 28 of which were missed — and the constant interrupting trill of whistles.
The Titans went on a 6-0 run late in the fourth quarter to build a big enough cushion to overcome an awful night at the free throw line and from the floor. O-G won for the fifth time in their last six outings.
NEW BREMEN — A 7-0 run midway through the third quarter got the Versailles Tigers some space. They went on to defeat the New Bremen Cardinals 67-62 Friday night in a key MAC contest played at New Bremen.
“I thought it was a product of them being more aggressive in the second half,” Cardinals head coach Adam Dougherty said. “Early in the second half they were more aggressive than we were. (Mitch) Campbell got the ball and went to work.”
MINSTER —A series of free throws in the final two minutes allowed the New Knoxville Rangers to down Minster 43-41 in a match-up of two of the Midwest Athletic Conference's top teams.
“It’s a big win whenever you can come into Minster here and pull off a win, because they’ve got a very good team,” said New Knoxville head coach Tim Hegemier. “I think the girls worked real hard on defense.”
VERSAILLES — On a night where neither team really shot that well the Versailles Tigers took advantage of 23 New Bremen Cardinal turnovers to defeat the Cardinals 35-18 Thursday evening in a MAC contest played at Versailles.
OTTAWA — The St. Marys girls basketball team put together strong bookend performances on Thursday night. The middle portions of the game proved to be the Roughriders’ undoing.
Ottawa-Glandorf went on an 11-1 run early in the third quarter and held off a late St. Marys rally in a 40-35 win at the Robert J. Hermiller Gymnasium on Thursday night.
Kristen Miller scored a team-high 10 points for the Titans.
Ashleigh Falk scored a game-high 12 points for St. Marys and Reagan Aller added 10 points.
ADA — Ohio Northern senior center and New Bremen graduate Scott Schnelle scored his 1,000th point for the Polar Bears on Wednesday night in ONU’s 64-55 win over Heidelberg.
Schnelle’s free throw with 14:21 left in the second half put him at the scoring plateau.
Schnelle scored 18 points on 14-of-15 shooting from the floor to go along with nine rebounds three assists and a block.
