LEWISTOWN — The St. Marys wrestling team began state dual tournament action with a pair of close victories on Wednesday night at Indian Lake High School. The Roughriders edged out Bellefontaine 35-34 and Indian Lake 37-34.
The Roughriders advance to the regional semifinals and will face Wapakoneta next Wednesday night at 5 p.m. at a site to be determined. The winner of the St. Marys-Wapakoneta match advance to the regional championship match against the winner of Wauseon and Toledo Central Catholic 20 minutes after the semifinal matches.
WAPAKONETA — The New Knoxville girls basketball team used a good post-game offense and a stout defense to hold the Wapakoneta Redskins to seven second half points to defeat the Redskins 57-28 Tuesday evening at Wapakoneta.
The Rangers outscored Wapakoneta 30-7 in the second half.
LIMA — The St. Marys girls bowling team finished second at the Pioneer Classic at Lima’s Westgate Lanes on Monday in a 16-team match play event that features some of the state's best.
St. Marys advanced to the championship round, where they bowed out to champion Coldwater. The Riders got off to a early lead by taking the first Baker gamer, 189-169. The Rider then dropped the next 3 games by scores of 154-169, 179-211 and tied the last games 162-162 but lost the 9th and 10th frame roll off.
NEW BREMEN 55, MINSTER 52, OT
NEW BREMEN — The annual rivalry game between New Bremen and Minster didn’t disappoint on Friday. The 155th meeting had to go to overtime and it took a basket by Brent Goettemoeller and a free throw by Carson Manger to give the New Bremen Cardinals a 55-52 victory.
